Sciatica is a medical condition which is characterized by pain which travels along the path of sciatic nerve. Sciatic nerve travels from the lower back through the hips down to the legs. There occurs irritation, inflammation and compression of this nerve. This nerve is present on both sides of legs, either one or both nerves get affected. The common causes of sciatica are herniation of disk, overgrowth of bone or tumor in surrounding area. Most of the people suffering from sciatica get better with some self-care measures but severe cases require medical attention.
