DEFINITION

  • Keloids are raised , reddish-purple scars that can grow beyond the boundaries of the original wound.
  • When skin is injured ,fibrous tissue called scar tissue forms over the wound to repair and protect the injury.
  • They are more common in people with darker skin tones , most commonly found on shoulders , earlobes , chest , cheeks and can appear anywhere on the body.

They occur when the body produces excess collagen in response to an injury such as :

Home Remedies for Keloids

  • Apple cider vinegar

This is a natural astringent , it prevents scar-promoting cells from entering the keloid site and also reduces both pigmentation and size of keloids. Mix the apple cider vinegar with a water and apply it on the keloid using a cotton ball. Leave it  for 30 min.

  • Aloe Vera Gel

This is known for its anti-inflammatory and soothing properties . apply fresh gel directly onto the affected scar and leave it .

  • Sandalwood and Rose water

A thick paste of  Sandalwood and rose water when applied together on the scar tissue it reduce itching , inflammation and  also reduce the size of tissue.

  • Lemon juice

Lemon is rich with vitamin C and other antioxidants , helps in healing the scars , reduces in size improve texture and colour of the affected tissue. Apply fresh lemon juice using a wet cotton ball.

  • Honey

Honey have anti-inflammatory properties that help in reducing keloids . apply honey on the site of keloid and let it stay until it gets sticky.

  • Onion

Onion has antioxidant properties. Apply juice of onion on the area of keloid and stay until it dries.

  • Garlic

The garlic root help in getting rid of keloids. Apply crushed garlic on the area of keloid and let it stay for 10-15 min.
