These factors alone or combined, can lead to changes in the chemistry imbalance.
This condition is a serious one and is very common too. As per studies, it’s said that depression affects 1 in 5 people and around 12 percent of men and 21 percent of women suffer from the same at least once in their lives.

CAUSES OF DEPRESSION
As per some theories, there is chemical imbalance in the brain, due to which depression is caused. They are termed as neurotransmitters and they carry signals to the brain. When an imbalance occurs, there is an effect on the production of these chemicals.
Many a times, depression occurs due to family history. If some family member has been affected by depression, there are chances that even you might be affected. It might run from generation to generation.

Ayurveda believes that depression is caused due to imbalance in tamas, rajas and sattva combined with imbalance of vata, pitta and kapha. When there is lack of mental discipline, a person tends to indulge in negativity and negative emotions.
In Ayurveda, depression is an indicator of reduced sattva and aggravated tamasik and rajasik energies. When the ojas weakens, this problem often occurs. Moreover, even Prana vayu is given importance in this field. Due to weakened ojas, the prana vayu is disturbed, which in turn, affects stimulation of the mind.
Sluggish movements, lack of energy, irritability, slow talking, and lack of self-esteem are usually associated with weakened ojas. On the other hand, lack of interest, despair, sadness etc are indicators of tamasik and rajasik influences.
