Swedana is a popular procedure in Ayurveda, which focuses on sweating. Mainly, it is aimed at a steam bath to patients and is quite beneficial. In this therapy, our therapists generate steam from various herbal decoctions; the main goal is inducing perspiration or sweat. With this, the body channels are dilated and toxins are released out from the body.
This therapy is quite ideal for establishing a good balance and also for ensuring a good well-being and healthy life. Excess doshas are relieved from the patient’s body and also a proper balance is struck. Great relief is provided from pains and aches. Moreover, if the body channels of the body have any blockages, they are removed. The skin is rejuvenated and the body is detoxified.
Ayurveda believes that sweating is very necessary for the body. Through sweating, the impurities are flushed out through pores. In Swedana, our therapists give in a medical oil massage and then, a herbal steam bath is given. The blood vessels are loosened and the entire body system is detoxified.
Then, this medicated steam bath helps to stimulate the flow of oxygen all through the body. Due to steam, the body’s natural sweating process is activated. This is very much necessary for getting rid of toxins that are accumulated.
Basically, this is an individualized steam bath. Here, the therapist will keep the heart area and head cool. Heat will be given to the whole body for getting rid of impurities. In this procedure, you will be asked to lie down or sit down on your back. Various heat therapies will be given. Mainly, an oil massage is given. Our therapist will apply oil all over your body and depending on the extent of the dosha and your condition, steam will be generated. When the steam is being given, the eyes and the head would be properly covered with cotton pads; hence, there is no need of worrying at all about heat.
Then, the treatment continues till the forehead and abdomen sweat a lot. Usually, it takes 20 minutes for this to happen. After the procedure is completed, hot shower is recommended. This way, the entire body is detoxified. After that, we give him something to eat.
